The Barraquand

In the mountainous area of Vercors, at the side of the Alps in South East of France, an historic horse breed, was recently recognized by the French institution. Called the Horse of Vercors, or Barraquand, this horse was breeded for more than a century on slopy lands, at high altitude, where agriculture cannot be profitable to farmers and face harsh weather, especially during winter. All this made of this little stocky horse, a perfect friend for horseriding on difficult trails !

I have been visited Barraquand farmers for several years now and had the opportunity to photograph many of the breed individuals. Thanks to amazing landscapes and the very expressive faces of these horses, I have taken one of my favorite pictures there.
